Serious graphics card problem!?

Hi. My computer has been restarting randomly over the past month. At first I thought iy was my power supply... I was wrong.

I bought a new power supply, by Arctic Cooling, 450 Watt which is fine for my computer. But the still restarts on its own, giving the error message:

RV410 ATOMBIOS TSOP MEMORY

My RAM is fine, that narrows it down to my GFX card, which is about 2 years old now, an ATI Radeon X700.

My Q is this... how could a graphics card be causing system restarts? Is it hardware, or software?

Serious graphics card problem!?

Many factors can contribute to random restarts with a machine. If your card is malfunctioning it may be sending electrical surges through the motherboard and causing the power to temporarily die.

On the other hand it could be a software issue where the OS isn't communicating properly with the rest of the machine.

Try a reinstall of your OS and if the issues persists, try it without your graphics card.

overheating can cause auto shutdowns, make sure your heat sink hasent fallen off or anything

Serious graphics card problem!?

sounds like its more likely to be overheating check your cpu fan overheating causes this problem (i had it) if using amd try disabling auto fan control in bios whilst still running cool n quiet - means your cpu voltage is lowered when not in use but your cpu fan runs at ~4000rpm all the time = 35 degree cpu :)

Serious graphics card problem!?

maybe it's cause by the incompatible between ur pc casing with the motherboard that cause ur motherboard cannot hold the graphic card in the right place..might be also u have to remove the exist graphic driver and install the latest driver.

Serious graphics card problem!?

it might be your computer over heating or your computer might need more power in the power supply like 1000 watts

Serious graphics card problem!?

There is obviously something wrong. You need a new graphic card. I'm sorry. That's just what you need. OK? Get one. It's what you need. It's really important. Trust me. OK?

hi mate

the restarts occur bacause of a hardware problem, its windows way of protecting your p.c from any damage

you can override the restarts by right clicking my computer%26gt;advanced%26gt;start up and recovery%26gt;untick "automatically restart",this will stop the restarts however the reason for the restarts still needs investigating

as for it being your graphics card, well the catylyst control center has a built in option for "graphic card failure",which will basically stop your card from working when it has a problem, you will find this in the "catylyst control center%26gt;vpu recovery

the best way to locate the problem is to allocate each day to a certain peice of hardware, for example tommorow concentrate on the hard drive, and if you can put as much stress as you can on the drive

then the next day hit the games, this will put the graphics card under stress

then if the p.c restarts more than normal on a specific day then you will know which hardware is causing the problem, and considering that the average p.c only has around 7 main components this will only take a week

its basically "trial and error",its the slowest method but the most effective

hope this helps

good luck mate !
