Nividia graphics card inoperative,...help?

Hello,...long story here

I woke up two days ago and my graphics card(n6500) was sending no signal,I switched over to my on-board (n6100) and its working fine.I have a Gateway GT5032 with AMD twin 4200 with 2 MB ram,..I upgraded the drivers and Bios and installed a new G8400 but still the system will not regonize the PCI slot,I disabled the G6100 and still nothing. The mother board is a ASUS C51GU01 but I think that the problem is in the programming,..The only thing that happened after I shut the computer down that night was a download from Windows for the Media Center,...I'm running XP,...I've done some research and there are some ppl having the same problem but still no solid fixes,is my PCI slot fried, the hardware wizard will not regonize the new card,I'm no PC wizard for sure so I could use some help on this one,....THX

it sounds like a motherboard issue. Careful, though, since most pre-built pcs come with proprietary power supply/mobo combos you will have to buy a motherboard and power supply. If not, you run the risk of killing the board by using the original power supply.

im not a pc wiz also but it happened t me also.. i tried reformatting my pc but it dont work also.. i changed my mother board, then it works.. maybe your pcie slot is the problem.. if you can reformat your pc, try it before buying a mobo..or you can transfer your hardwares to another mobo and try.. mix and match things and see whats the problem.

Try putting the graphics card in another pci slot, maybe replacing the sound card or something if need be to see if the current pci slot has a problem

Otherwise it maybe a software issue or something wrong with the xp installation which might call for a reinstall of xp

maybe your case is pulling the card out of it's slot

Your PCI express slot is probably dead if you have a free chinese quality(a stupid name is a dead give away) like powersupply.
