I have a new imac 20in with an ATI x1600 128mb graphics card and i'm wondering is there any way to replace it with a better one, without having to bring it to an apple store.

your new imac still has warranty?
if so, then call the shop you bought the imac from or the manufacturer to send you a better imac version - if you mean the parts inside the imac.
else, just change the resolution of the desktop to a higher resolution.
