IBook graphics card issue?

ok, my 2 year old mac iBook froze up while reading email in safari. mouse wouldn't move. alt tab did nothing. all i could do is reboot. when it came up again, right after the apple graphic the screen drew thin white lines across a black background for a few secs before it painted the screen, but then i got the normal desktop and could do everything. 5 minutes later another freeze up. it continues to do this. not running hot, not making any noise, nuttin.

what the f is going on? graphics card going bad? monitor?

try 10.4.8 or nortons for osx - does not sound like the graphics card - but maybe physical ram - dont know of osx diagnostics

It's an easy fix and here's how you do it.

Sometimes Macs F@$k up but it's rare.

Find your MacOSX install CD/DVD and we'll get this fixed.

Start your computer from the install CD/DVD

Holding the C key while you reboot, hold C until you see a blue screen.

After awhile it will boot and the first window should be a language selection, select English and hit OK

On the next screen, look for the following options depending on what version of MacOSX you have.

If there is a pull-down for utilities look there for disk utility.

If not look under File.

Select Disk Utility and let it scan for drives.

Do you see your Hard Drive listed?

Highlight it and then hit the button that Say's verify and repair.

It will now go in and try to fix any disk errors and tell you the results.

Now quit and remove the disc and restart. That should do it. If not you have a bigger problem going on.

Do the repair and verify disk as someone else answered here

Also, try resetting the PMU

Disconnect everything (including power cable) from computer, and take out batttery

With everything disconnected and battery out, hold down the power button for 5 full seconds

Put the battery back in and connect power cord (if it was already connected)

Turn computer back on
