Question for graphics designers and animators?

hello everyone

i m student of computer engineering but i find my interest in graphics designing/animation quite a lot.

i wish to ask that ppl of this profession , are they paid well enuff to support a family easily or is it better that i stick to this computer engineering profession.

i love to work with maya,3ds max and such softwares and i love to b a part of game development/animation industury.

but i m not sure what to do plz help
